Why do cats need wet food?
Cats are strict carnivores, feral cats are prey eaters and have more diverse nutritional needs than other animals, such as dogs.
Since their origins, cats have been eating live prey for hygiene, so they don't have to develop specific metabolic pathways (which may have been lost in evolution) or develop specific habits, such as drinking water (prey animals contain high levels of water, so cats don't need to drink as often).
This means that they need some intakes (taurine and vitamin A, among many other things) that other animals don't need in their diet. · Dry food alone, such as croquettes, will not satisfy the cat's water needs (unlike prey), so we need to get them into the habit of drinking water and provide them with wet food.
It is important to note that numerous studies have shown that failure to drink water, combined with excessive use of dry food, can lead to the formation of urine crystals (both in the kidney and bladder).
Persian, exotic, Burman, Habanna brown and Muppet cats, as well as neutered males, are more likely to produce urine crystals (dogs can also get it, and miniature schnauzers are a common breed).
Crystallization of urine can result in: loss of urinary sensation; frequent incontinence; hematuria; increased risk of bladder infection
Whenever we notice any of these symptoms in our cats and they behave abnormally, we should take them to our pet doctor immediately as this can lead to urinary tract obstruction (death from urea poisoning within hours).
At PetMetro, we take the issue of cat diet very seriously. We insist on providing cats with a daily wet diet to promote their urination and replenish their hydration. For this reason, we have developed a range of wet foods that deliver the love Moment, in strict accordance with our brand's philosophy of using love and the best ingredients, to ensure that cats are adequately hydrated during their comfort.
A simple way to provide them with a balanced diet is to combine feeding (a daily mix of wet and dry foods), but to make sure that both foods are, as much as possible, refined formulations of high quality, rich in natural ingredients and biological nutrients.
